School-based Mentoring

We work with Communities In Schools North Texas (CISNT) to give volunteers opportunities to mentor one-on-one with students in a Denton ISD school. CISNT has Site Coordinators at 12 schools across the district - 1 high school, 4 middle schools, and 7 elementary schools.  CISNT provides extensive academic, emotional and social service support to students served within their programs, which includes individual mentoring. CISNT mentoring involves a consistent, one-on-one relationship with an individual student. Meetings that take place on a regular, weekly basis are key in helping students “stay in school and achieve in life”.

Mentors are assigned a school (based on need and their preference) and the CISNT site coordinator at the school works with you to match you with a student. Once matched, the mentor must commit to showing up at the school at the same time once a week for one hour. This may be before, during, or after the school day, as worked out with the CISNT site coordinator.

WHAT IS REQUIRED TO BE A SCHOOL-BASED MENTOR:

Depending on when you sign-up to be a mentor through CISNT, the process from application to matching can take as long as a month.
